Juvederm is in a large category of 'facial fillers.' Technically, Juvederm is hyaluronic acid, a naturally occuring lubricant in the body. There are many other tradenames for hyaluronic acid. It is currently indicated for injection into the mid to deep dermis for correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds (such as nasolabial folds). It can be used in other areas safely as well. Juvederm comes in two molecular sizes branded as Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Ultra Plus. Facial filler work by adding volume to the skin to hide the wrinkles and depressions in the skin. Juvederm is approved by the US FDA to indicate that it lasts up to a year.

Juvederm can be used for many applications:

  • correction of nasolabial folds (lines between the nose and corner of the mouth.
  • correction of glabellar furrows (lines between the brows)
  • correction of acne scars (often combined with other procedures)
  • adding volume to the lips
  • adding volume to the cheeks
  • correction of lines from the corner of the mouth to the chin
  • correction of the 'tear trough deformity', depression near the corner of the eye and the nose
