Make-up Shake-up

Athleo Louis Cambre, MD answers: Wearing makeup post-Blepharoplasty

I had Blepharoplasty 4 days ago, and need to go back to work next week. I have read everywhere that I'm not supposed to wear any eye make up for 2 - 3 weeks. But if my skin looks sealed and healed by next week, is there any reason I can't wear make up sooner?

Other than the slight possibility of some irritation of the incision by your make-up, there would probably be no reason why you couldn't apply eye make-up within one week after surgery.

The problem is removing the eye make-up, which involves much harsher products and some degree of rubbing of the delicate eyelid skin and incision line, which may not be strong enough to take the abuse, just one week post-op.

You are best advised to check with your surgeon to see whether the suture line has healed as well as necessary, to avoid the risk of your incision bursting open because of the application or removal of make-up.  Until then, you could always continue to wear sunglasses...
