Gynecomastia surgery: Choice of Liposuction Incision Sites

Gynecomastia can occur in young children, adolescents, and seniors.  It also persists into adulthood in some males.

Liposuction is a valid treatment option for gynecomastia without excessive skin redundancy.

In choosing liposuction incision sites, the ideal incisions should be placed at points which provide safe exposure to all aspects of the treatment area and which are relatively inconspicuous.  In certain patients, based on anatomic characteristics of the chest wall, the incision sites may have to be altered.

There is no one specific incision pattern for liposuction of gynecomastia.  There are, however,  many options to improve the scar if you do not like the current scar pattern.

The choice of site for incisions for liposuction of gynecomastia really depends on the extent of breast tissue that exists. Truth is, that the contour that you have afte surgery is probably more important than the exact location of the incisions. Occasionally I will make additional access incisions during liposuction of gynecomastia if I think it will allow me to obtain a better final contour.

Treatment of Gynecomastia usually requires removal of brreast gland tissue in addition of liposuction of the breast. Insteased of making the standard incision below the areaola as your doctor has done, I now use a very small 1/2 inch stab incision within the areala and with a small instrument remove the breast gland tissue. the advantage of this is that the scar is much smaller and less noticable than the standard incision.
