Swelling appears normal and expected

Frank P. Fechner, MD answers: Swelling after blepharoplasty, cheek implants, and facelift

On March 3, 2009 I had blepharoplasty done with CO2 laser under the eyes, cheek implants, and face lift done. It's all healing well except for the swelling. My lips are also huge, and for the most part, numb. What can I do about these? Thanks.

You had relatively extensive facial surgery - the swelling appears expected after only 10 days. Cheek implants and facelift as independent procedures may give you this kind of swelling; combining them will be somewhat cumulative. As long as you see a day by day improvement, you should be OK.

Stay in close contact with your surgeon as he wants to know about your progress. Lip numbness is likely related to the cheek implants. During the procedure (done through an under-the-lip-incision?), the infraorbital nerve can get stretched/ bruised which should normalize over the next few weeks. At the end, we hope that your patience pays off with a nice improvement. Best of luck.
