Saline and Silicone are both safe implants. However, the FDA is currently investigating the newest "hybrid" implant on the market. This IDEAL IMPLANT, is a baffled saline implant which was designed to look and feel more like a silicone implant, but without the silicone. You should check to see if there is a plastic surgeon investigator near you.

A: Breast implants are safe

Breast implants, both silicone and saline ones, are very safe.

No studies have ever shown that any implants have caused any diseases.

The new style of silicone implants are even better than ever. The silicone gel inside of the implants is thicker. Thus, even if something happened to the implants, the gel would not move far from the implant.

During your initial consultation, your plastic surgeon will be able to discuss key research papers in the discussion of silicone implants. The bottom line is that silicone implants are safe and pose no additional risk of breast cancer. However, silicone implant rupture is more difficult to identifty on clinical exam. Further, there are differential rates of rupture and capsular contracture between silicone and saline implants.
