I concur with most of the answers posted so far. Silicone implants are safe medical devices. They are FDA approved. But remember, no medical devices last forever. Now that does not mean you will need to change your implants every 5 or 10 years for certain. But each year, there is a small risk of an implant related problem that may necessitate revisional surgery.
The bottom line is this: when you accept the benefit of implants, you accept a risk that you may need revisional surgery in the future. The good news: none of the implant related risks are life-threatening, have been show to cause any increased risk in systemic illnesses, or increase your risk for breast cancer. I suggest you meet with a board certified plastic surgeon (credentialed by the American Board of Plastic Surgery) to further this discussion. Hope this helps.
