While it is impossible not to have any scar with surgery, a well executed facelift will leave inconspicuous scars such that others will have a hard time noticing even with close examination. A good facelift is designed with the incisions in the temporal and posauricular (behind the ear) hair bearing scalp. The incision does travel in front of the ear, but should be designed to fall within natural curves and skin creases.  In women, we like to plan the incision behind the tragus. In addition to well designed incisions, it is crucial to close the wound with meticulous attention to detail, particularly around the ear and the lobule. By adhering to these principles, excellent outcomes can be achieved with high patient satisfaction.

You may notice your scars as you have observed them from their inception = day one after surgery.  However, as days, weeks pass, the scars fade.  If you look at my site you will see close ups of where the scars are and the patients have no make up on.  Can you see them??

The ability to conceal the surgical incisions so that the scars are difficult to see is the banner of a skilled Plastic surgeon.  Spend some time comparing before and after pictures - see if the doctor has close up pictures of the incisions and shows you the time sequence of healing.  I think you will understand that the scars while "present" are difficult to see.
