Scarless Surgery

John Philip Connors III, MD answers: Possible to get breast reduction without leaving large scars?

I am considering a breast reduction.  I have breasts that are FF! I am only 23, 5 ft 2, and I weigh about 135 pounds. I have tried to loose weight, but my breast stay large. I have always been self conscious about the way my body looks and would love to have a reduction, but I don't want the ugly scars. Is there any way to have a reduction without large scars? Another concern is my breasts are slightly starting to sag. If I were to leave them this size could they be lifted without scarring?

Unfortunately, we as plastic surgeons have not been able to completely eliminate scars from our fantastic surgical techniques...but we are still trying!

It sounds like you are moving towards needing a reduction/lift...I see this all the time, in all types of patients, young and old. I have moved away from the "anchor" scar that many plastic surgeon use as I felt that it was "scar" heavy...but most importantly I felt that the early and late breast shape was better with my newer technique which uses a "lollipop" style scar. I feel this gives a great breast shape and long-term look.

Fair skin patients, as you appear to be, heal their scars very well with appropriate post-operative scar management...we use silicone sheets and ointments, massage with vitamin E as well as topical growth hormones.

I hope this helps and know that you will be very happy with your decision as breast reduction/ lift patients are some of my HAPPIEST patients!

Good Luck!
