Safety of secondary facelift

Sam Jejurikar, MD answers: Is it safe to have another facelift seven years after?

I'm 65 years old and had a facelift seven years ago that I was delighted with. I'm beginning now to see the need for perhaps another minor procedure even though I do Botox. I wasn't happy with my Juvederm injection for the nose-to-mouth line so prefer not attempting that again. Any suggestions as to another facelift and the type or would this be an overkill on my part? Thanks!

Hi,

Secondary facelifts are commonly performed surgeries.  If at all possible, you should return to the surgeon who performed your original surgery.  He or she will be most familiar with the specific technique used for your procedure, which will allow for elevation of the muscle-fatty layer of the midface and neck in the safest possible manner.  If it's not possible to see the same surgeon, see if you can get a copy of the operative note to provide the next surgeon.

As other surgeons have mentioned, the only real contraindication to surgery is a significant medical problem.

Best of luck.
