Restylane for Tear Trough deformityand "dark circles"

Stephen Mandy, MD answers: Restylane for filling tear trough and lessening bags?

I seem to have a depression in the tear trough area and would like to fill it instead of undergoing surgery, which scares me. Will Restylane really work for these problems?

Hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm work quite well to correct the tear trough hollw that occurs due to aging reabsorption of the maxillary bone and enlargement of the orbit of the eye.  Small amounts (usally 0.1 to 0.2cc) on each side will result in lifting of the nasolabial fold, smoothing of wrinkles and filling of the hollow in that region.  Bruising is the most common but temporary problem, but overcorrection can result in lumps which can take 6 months to resolve.  This is a technique best performed by experienced Board Certified injectors.
