How to Get Rid of Whiteheads?

I have struggled with whiteheads for many years now. I have used Accutane, Tetracyclin, topical salicylic acid, tea tree oil, vitamin A and E and even benzoyl peroxide. After two years, I can honestly say that my skin has improved and many of the whiteheads have cleared.
However, I still have many that refuse to clear and become inflamed resulting to a red, infected break out that at times leave dark marks and scarring. I'm afraid to have them extracted as I think it may cause serious infection and lead to more breakouts. What are my options?
