Recovery after Breast Augmentation

Tom J. Pousti, MD answers: Recovery from breast augmentation surgery

Considering enhancing my breasts through surgery.  Its been a really hard decision and my biggest worries are about recovery from the surgery.  What can I expect?  Will I be able to take care of my 2 children afterwards?  When do scars really begin to fade?  The more you can tell me the better!

It is most important that you choose a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon to perform your breast augmentation surgery. If it is not done correctly, it could affect your recovery time. Most patients recover within 2 to 4 days afterwards. There will be swelling and bruising which can last for a couple of weeks. I recommend keeping your elbows to your sides for about  1 week to help let the area heal. Also avoid any heavy lifting and strenuous exercise for about 4-6 weeks. You are required to wear a surgical bra for 4 weeks.
