Pink Scars

John Philip Connors III, MD answers: New pink scar after revision?

Is it true that after scar revision surgery, the new scar will be pink for some weeks. Why is that?

Blood flow increases and blood vessels are dilated during the inflammatory/repair/proliferation phases of wound healing. It is the increased blood flow (and greater concentration of red blood cells carrying oxygen to fuel healing) that contribute to the pink color

This is normal repair and scar healing. The character and color of which are generally controlled by your genes, tension accross the wound and local environment (which is why sun exposure can cause worse inflammation and lea to a worse scar).

I hope this helps!
