Amir M. Karam, MD answers: PSP facelift results as dramatic as SMAS facelift?

I am seeing a surgeon tomorrow, who suggests going ahead with a PSP Facelift. I'd like to know first, will PSP facelift results look as dramatic as SMAS facelift?

The number one thing you need to do is find a facial plastic surgeon or plastic surgeon who is dedicated to facial rejuvenation and performs many facelift operations on a regular bases.

The facelift is primarily an operation designed to restore the youthful contours of the lower face and neck.  How you achieve this depends on the surgeons preference and several factors ranging from safety, downtime, and longevity of the results.

The surgeon you choose should be well-versed in performing several different facelift approaches.  He or she should then perform the one that will get you the best results for with the least risk.

The PSP is an excellent technique if done well.  This is true of any facelift procedure. Theoretically, it does have a shorter recovery and less potential risk related to facial nerves.

However, it is very important to do your homework, not by trying to understand the nuances of the technique, but to call up patients who have had the operation.  Ask them about their experience and their level of satisfaction.  This will tell you more than anything else.

Good luck,
