Not unless you want it to happen.

Toby G. Mayer, MD answers: Will a nose job change the shape of my nostrils?

My concern is that by moving down my hump, the nostrils will expand outward. Is this a real chance of happening?

This will not happen unless the surgeon wants it to happen. Make sure you communicate that to your surgeon. If you see an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon you will get what you want.

A: Shape of nostrils

Paul S. Nassif, MD

Hello,

With tip work, you may get alar retraction. Also, if you deproject the nasal tip, the ala can become wider. If it is something noticeable, your surgeon may perform another procedure later on where the nostrils are lowered using cartilage. Hope this helps answer your question.

Nostril shape should not change with nasal hump removal. If you see an experienced surgeon and decide exactly what will be done, that question is easily addressed.
