Can a Medically-supervised Weight Loss Program Replace a CPAP Machine?

I cannot get clearance from a DOT doctor unless he sees that I have been using a CPAP machine. I have moderate apnea and drive a school bus. I have also lost 7 lbs since seeing the DOT doctor in July. Can the CPAP machine be replaced by a medically supervised weight loss program? Thanks.
