Fat, fillers, etc. for lip augmentation

Hisham Seify, MD, PhD answers: Lip augmentation that passes the Kiss test?

While long-lasting would be nice-- as would be low cost-- the most important factor for me is natural looking and feeling lips. My friend calls this the Kiss Test. Passing the kiss test means that your kissing partner doesn't notice an unnatural lip texture. Which lip enhancement treatments are most natural feeling and pass the kiss test?

Fat grafting makes the lip very soft and is the most natural substance. The technique of harvesting, handling and injecting the fat is extremely important to prevent having any bumps. Hyaluronic acid fillers are also very reliable and will give you a natural result. I had few patients who did not want any of the injection and asked for the dermal fat graft method which is the oldest method of injection but it is very natural.

Best of luck!

Almost all of the practitioners have universally suggested hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm and we agree. With that said, we believe that one of the most important components of not overdoing the lips is to inject at the border between the lip and surrounding skin rather than putting all of the product into the body of the lip.

Injecting at the border causes the lip to pull upward (or downward on the lower lip) creating a fuller appearance without adding too much product to the body of the lip. This technique minimizes the cost and helps to avoid bumps because smaller amounts of product are used.
