Addressing Juvederms Disappearance

Arnold R. Oppenheim, MD answers: Juvederm gone in a week?

I had Juvederm injected in the periorbital lines, nasolabial, chin, upper and lower lips. It has been a week and the swelling is gone and so is the Juvederm. Except for some (uneven) fullness in the upper lips, everyone I know said they don't see any difference. Neither do I. What happened? I went to a very well known dermatologist who is supposd to have a lot of experience.

I would like to offer a few possible explanations.

Perhaps, you received better correction than you thought. I think the best results are when a patient is told they look relaxed or younger, i.e. when they do not look like they had had anything done. Maybe, you achieved this success without knowing it.

If not: without looking at the before photos; perhaps, you needed even more Juvederm than 3 1/2 syringes. Though that to me is usually an adequate amount.

Perhaps, your physician should have used a layered technique with Ulta Plus deeper and Ultra sitting on top. Certainly, as others have pointed out, the Juvederm Ultra might have been placed too deeply. Who knows maybe the physician might have just used Hylauronidase to erase blue blebs from areas that were too superficial; was antsy and cautious and went a little deeper.

I am also curious why there was still 1/2 cc syringe left. Was your doctor planning to use this 1/2 cc later and if so did it help your correction?

It would seem prudent to return to the physician and in a non-confrontational manner tell him or her your complaint. Your physician might judiciously administer Botox to address some of your problems at cost or without cost.

Good  luck and you might want to keep us all aprised.
