Botox for angry look is a start

Robert Vitolo, MD answers: How to get rid of "angry look" on my face?

I’m told over and over again “what’s wrong”. I won’t even be in a deep thought. The furrow between my eyes is the culprit. I know Botox is used to remove these furrows, but I hate the idea of going to a dermatologist every several months to get an injection. I can’t imagine fitting it into my hectic schedule. What alternatives are there for my angry-look problem?

Botox is one of the most commonly performed non-surgical cosmetic surgery procedures. These 'lunch time lifts' are very effective and economical alternatives to a more permanent solution to the 'angry look' problem. Patients who are in the same position that you are in often realize that they like the results from the Botox treatments but they do not like the fact that they must re-treat every 4 month to 6 months. In those cases, we recommend that a patient consider an endoscopic brow lift.

Botox gives you a refreshed look. It makes you look like you have gone on a vacation. Almost 100 percent of patients come back, because they want to remain looking happy and get away from that angry look.

A: Alternatives to Botox

Unfortunately, Botox or Dysport is really the only way to get rid of the "angry look".  Most patients require treatment every 3-4 months.  I suggest you try a treatment, just once.  I believe that when you see the very dramatic result and how great you look, you will feel it is more than worth it to go the doc every 3-4 months to maintain it.  Also, there is some evidence that patients who have Botox regularly look significantly younger than those who don't, as they get older.  So it has two benefits.  Hope this helps.

That are what most people refer to as their “11” lines. Botox is the most effective treatment for that area. It really only takes about 5 minutes and will last up to 4 to 6 months. Once patients see how great the results are, they make the time. We could also do some laser treatments to help stimulate your own collagen but botox is more of the quick fix!

A: Botox is the only way to relax the muscle that causes frown lines

Jordana S. Gilman, MD

Repetitive frowning causes creases between the eyebrows that, over time, don't go away even when you aren't frowning.  A few small injections of Botox is a quick method of eliminating these lines, and it isn't too painful.  The first time you have Botox the muscles are at their strongest and the results will last about 3 months.  If you continue to get treated as soon as you see the muscles starting to frown again, you may find that it takes a little longer every time for the muscles to "wake up."  Because you aren't using the muscles, they don't get back to peak strength and, in a way, your face may have forgotten how to frown.  All in all, Botox treatments are a realtively quick procedure and well worth it to remove the angry look from your face.
