Is it safe to combine augmentation revision with liposuction?

Tracy M. Pfeifer, MD answers: Safe to combine breast augmentation revision, areola reduction and lipo?

I'm interested in a getting a breast augmentation revision (going smaller) with a possible areola reduction and liposuction of the inner/outer thighs and possibly stomach and flanks. Is it safe to do all this in one surgery? Thanks in advance!

Hi Aricarai.  Assuming you are in good health, it is safe to combine these procedures.  In general when combining procedures, I do not like the operating time to be longer than 5 hours and I do not combine major liposuction with other large procedures.  Liposuction of the inner and outer thighs could probably be safely combined with the breast surgery.  Depending on how much liposuction needs to be perfomed in total if you add in the stomach and flanks, you may be able to combine all of it.  Every surgeon has their own preference.  In my opinion in order to properly perform liposuction, it takes some time.  Hope this helps.

Dear Aricarai, combining surgical procedures is safe.  Any surgery over 1 hour has increased risk of complications, however that increased risk is small.  Things that increase your surgical risk are- smoking, being overweight, diabetes, known heart or lung disease, BCP, poor health.

With Warm Regards,

It certainly is possible to combine a breast augmentation, nipple areola reduction and liposuction provided that you are healthy.  I do this all the time.
