Compression garment for a week

Jonathan Hoenig, MD answers: Is a chin strap needed after a neck lift for turkey neck?

After a neck lift to get rid of my turkey neck, would I have to wear a chin strap?  If so, how long?

I do recommend the use of a compression garment (chin strap) for the first week after necklift surgery. This will help reduce bruising and swelling and speed your recovery. The pressure from the elastic bandage prevents fluid and blood from accumulating under the skin flap. It also keeps you from running around too much since you wont want to go out with your bandage on :) I do not, however, use drains.

A: Dressing after Neck Lift needed only for a few days

The neck dressing we have patients wear is for protection from trauma and to limit the extremes of head motion after surgery. It does nothing after that.
