Some differences between a forehead lift and brow lift

Jeffrey Zwiren, MD answers: Is a brow lift different from a forehead lift?

I know this seems like a silly question, but I see both terms used and am not sure if they're the same surgery...

There are many ways to perform a brow lift and a forehead lift.  That is to raise the eyebrows to an aesthetic and youthful position.

BrowPexy - On men and occastionally on woman a brow pexy or interal brow suspension can be performed.   This is usually done through an upper eyelid incision.  It involves the internal placement of sutures to tack the eyebrow to a higher position.

A Forehead lift can be done is several different ways depending upon the existing anatomy and which features of the forehead are to be improved.

Endoscopic Browlift / forehead lift - this involves the use of an endoscope or surgical telescope.  The instruments and scope are placed through small access incisions and the brow is undermined, lifted toa higher position and then held in place through a variety of means

Coronal Browlift / forehead lift - This is a more traditional or older style brow lift.  A transverse incsion is made within the hair line.  The forehead is mobilized and the frontalis muscles, those responsible for the transverse lines of the forehead can be remodeled and the corragator muscle, the muscle responsible for the vertical lines betweent the eyebrows can be reshaped.

Anterior hair line brow lift or forehead lift - This is also an open technique that can be used to lower the hair line for a patient with an excessively high forhead.

Lateral temporal brow lift - a limited incision lateral brow lift suitable for lifing only the outside part of the eyebrow

Lateral galeapexy a limited incision lateral brow lift suitable for lifing only the outside part of the eyebrow

After an evaulation and discussion with a plastic surgeon the appropriate technique can be selected to give the best result.
