IPL for Redness after Accutane

Bryan K. Chen, MD answers: IPL for redness after Accutane?

I was on Accutane 2 years ago. I know that a common side effect of Accutane is flushing and redness, but it's supposed to go away after the treatment. It has been two years post Accutane and I have permanent redness in my cheeks, and I still flush, although rarely. I am having IPL lasers, had two treatments already with a little difference. How many more would I need? Thank you very much.

IPL for redness after Accutane?

I am familiar with post-Accutane flushing/redness as I have followed a few patients with this concern. I would continue with IPL treatments but with different settings and alternate IPL with Nd:YAG 1064 laser to address the redness/blood vessels at various depths. You can continue to have these laser/light treatments at 3-4 week intervals as long as you think they are beneficial.

Most cases of post-Accutane flushing I have seen resolve within a few years even with no intervention, though laser/light treatments can speed up the process.

Good luck.
