Blepharoplasty Healing

Robert M. Wald, Jr., MD answers: Eyelid surgery recovery

I cannot afford to miss more than 2 weeks of work when recovering from blepharoplasty procedure. Can a plastic surgeon describe the post-op recovery typical for patients.

In general, eyelid surgery healing is a week to 10 days.  All the bruising is gone within three weeks.  Most patients take a week off work if upper and lower eyelids are done together.  If only lower lids are done through an inside eyelid approach,  three days off work is enough. There is essentially no pain following this surgery.

A: Eyelid surgery recovery varies

Hello,

Eyelid surgery varies as the procedures can be simple or more complicated. Upper eyelid surgery is usually much lower impact than lower eyelid surgery. Still patients tend to recover quickly unless they had issues with their eyes beforehand (such as dry eyes.) Most patients are back to work within a few days to a week as long as they do not have really active jobs.
