The longevity of Restylane is often dependent on which area of the face it is injected. If it is injected for say scars it may last well beyond six months since there is very little movement in this area.
However, injecting it into a place like the mouth area, which is undergoing much more movement causing a displacement and subsequent absorption. In this region, one would expect it to last at the other end of the duration spectrum, four to six months.
The injector may have placed the Restylane too deeply. If it is placed below the dermis there may be very little positive effect. Perhaps, you only acceded to the use of only one syringe, where two or more syringes were actually needed. This would spread the Restylane out too much and lead to less than robust result.
Maybe you are a rapid absorber. Some people just seem to break the stuff down quicker. I had a patient come in yesterday, with a complaint similar to yours. She wanted to try a different physician for that reason. She is a triathlete and works out about 4 hours a day (she has a full-time job too).
I told her that I would try my best, but the Restylane might not last any longer in my hands than her prior physician. It might be her lifestyle that caused such rapid absorption.
Thus, there are many factors which might cause the Restylane to last less than ideally.
