The American Board of Plastic Surgeons

Kenneth R. Francis, MD answers: How do I find a trustworthy doctor for breast explantation?

I need to get an explantation, but don't have any idea how to find a surgeon. How do I find a trustworthy doctor to do the procedure? My GP couldn't help me with this question. I live in Florida.

Check the American Board of Plastic Surgeons, ABPS,  website, www.abplsurg.org for a listing of certified surgeons in your area.  From there you can meet with a few of them and see who you are comfortable with.  Anyone board certified by the ABPS is qualified to perform your procedure.  Good luck!

For removal of breast implants, you should find a qualified plastic surgeon that is board certified.  You can easily find board certified plastic surgeons in your area by referring to organizations such as the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.  Good luck.

A: Pick a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and ask him how he would do it.

Removing implants is not a difficult operation . (By the way, why do you need an explantation? It's unusual.)

There are two steps that, in my opinion, must be taken to avoid fluid accumulation (a seroma) after surgery.  First, the capsule around the implants must be either curetted or removed. Second, you need suction drains which stay in place at least one week.

I hope this is helpful. You already have several good suggestions for finding a surgeon.
