There are certain agents that you can use that are irritants that will cause the lips to swell temporarily for two or three days, but these are dangerous. You can develop allergic reactions, and it is very difficult to control these.

If you really want to have gorgeous, full, luscious lips, the treatment of choice is a hyaluronic acid filler done by an experienced dermatologist/physician. I like the hyaluronic acid fillers because they are a natural product that is already found throughout the skin and a component in the lubricating fluids in our joints. Once again, no allergy testing is needed with this type of agent.

I also like the synthetic hyaluronic acid products as opposed to those that are derived from animals such as roosters. I don't want anything derived from birds because I have a fear of the bird flu. I also don't like collagen because some collagen is derived from cows, and I don't like mad cow disease, and some is derived from human cadavers, and I fear what we might discover ten years from now.

I think the best injectable products are synthetic hyaluronic acid sugar-based gels.

I am getting juvederm in a few days and was wondering if there is any thing I can do ahead of the appointment to prevent the bruising swelling? Thank You, Kim
