Gynecomastia literally translates to "female breasts" when referring to a male.
As mentioned below gynecomastia normally occurs in up to 60% of normal pubertal males and usually responds.
It is characterized by excess breast tissue often associated with fat. Commonly the areola is enlarged. In severe cases the skin may be redundant and the breast can actually sag.
Treatment involves management of the different components: breast, fat and skin.
