Go with breast implant size that fits your proportion

Brian K. Brzowski, MD answers: How to choose breast implant size?

I'm worried that if I get breast implants my A cups with too large implants will give me a top heavy look (my friend calls it the stripper look!).  Is there a rule of thumb or tips for choosing breast augmentation sizes?

A good plastic surgeon will make you pick the implants, but you should have a chance to try them on before deciding. They shouldn't recommend a size that is too small, too narrow, too wide, or too large for your body, but you ultimately must pick the fullness that you desire.

Good luck.  Most patients do a great job with this decision!

A: Breast implant sizing at the time of consultation

I agree with almost everything that has been posted.  I think of all of the decisions a patient has to make regarding breast augmentation, size of the implant is most important.

Here is what I do:

1) listen to the patient -- do they want to be conservative or aggressive with the degree of change.

2) examine the patients taking into consideration all of the things that have been discussed but most importantly the diameter of the ideal implant for that patient.

3) I have the patient try on sizers at the time of the consult.  I give them a general range of implant sizes based on their goals.  This gives the patient a tangible idea of the size of an implant and the change it would make.  Generally, we choose an implant just a little larger (15 cc or so) than the size the patient considered "ideal".

4) For me the choice of profile does not need to be made by the patient.  I simply choose the profile that is the appropriate diameter for the patient at the volume that they would prefer.

This works very well in my practice and patients are generally quite happy with their size.
