Normal for Glycolic and Salicylic Acid Skin Care Products to Darken Skin?

I am very dark-skinned and have been using Avon products for a week now with glycolic and salicylic acid to even and lighten my skin tone.
My face has a lot of dry patches and looks darker and even sun-burned, which is not what I wanted.
Is this a normal effect of skin care products with these ingredients?
please help
