Finding the right surgeon for your breast augmentation

Fortunately, with the advent of the internet, it is much easier to chose or narrow your choices.  Most surgeons have before and after galleries posted on the internet, and one can view the results.  Hopefully, you will find 2-3 surgeons whose work you like.  It it then necessary to view the qualifications of each surgeon.  In my opinion, to assure the highest level of "quality control", choose a surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

The consultation is really an "interview".  It is your chance to see if you like and trust this surgeon.  Remember, he/she is going to cut you open and place an implant under your breast.  There is no turning back!

Although cost is important, it should be last on your list.  There may be a wide range of prices available in your area, especially if you live in an area with high demand for cosmetic surgery.  Common sense would dictate to find a price range which is "not too high" or "not too low".

It can be very confusing on how to select a surgeon for their cosmetic surgery procedure. I believe it is best to select a surgeon who is certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery ( www.abplsurg.org), who is a member of The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (www.plasticsurgery.org), and someone who is a member of The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (www.surgery.org).

Next, I would visit the state medical board to see that their license is current without any limitations. Following this, I would go to the surgeon's personal website to look at credentials, testimonials, before and after photos etc.

Finally, I would recommend you go visit the surgeon and see if you are confidant in and comfortable with the surgeon. Determine if you feel the staff is helpful and friendly. See if you can speak with previous patients.

To be sure that you are choosing an excellent breast surgeon, I would recommend that you start by researching the credentials of the doctors that you are considering. Be sure that you are considering surgeons who are Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgeons, and then look at what Societies that they are members of. The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons allows only Board Certified Plastic Surgeons who do the majority of their surgery in cosmetic surgery cases to be members if this exclusive Society. I would then meet with the doctors, and carefully look at their before and after photos, as a picture speaks 1000 words.

Lastly, if you are still uncertain, ask if you can speak with a patient that they have performed surgery on. If the surgeon does not provide you with a large volume of photos to look at, or cannot give you a patient of theirs to talk to, you may want to keep looking!
