Take a look at the Realself "Was it worth it?" survey

Otto Joseph Placik, MD answers: Facial skin tightening options?

I'm open to a face lift or facial plastic surgery but wanted more opinions on a variety of skin tightening options to tighten jowls and skin laxity in the face in general.

We are all interested in the least invasive methods of improving ourselves.

Unfortunately there are many options which are confusing but it really depends on what you want to achieve. I like analogies and so I will explain.

If you have an old house, putting on a new coat of paint and maybe resurfacing the walls will only do so much. Do you follow? Tearing down the walls and reubuiding them will certainly do alot more. On the way you may encounter plumbing problems you didn't anticipate which require more work. Furthermore, if you have done any construction, you know the work settles and cracks may appear within a few months of drying and/or weather changes.

Although this is a simple analogy, the same is true with the face. Resurfacing (peels, lasers, fillers) generally address the surface without providing any true long term support.

Facelift surgery is more involved buit provides long term results. However settling does occur and overcorrection initially followed relaxation of the result are typically observed.

In summary, looking at the realself "Was it worth it?" survey, you will see the highest satsifaction rate with facelift surgery followed by all the other procedures.

Best of luck in your decisions!!
