Eczema aggravated by cleansers.

Bryan K. Chen, MD answers: Eczema aggravated by cleansers

I have Eczema on my face that seems aggravated by cleansers. Do I still need to use a cleanser or is plain water okay?

Plain water to cleanse eczema-prone skin is fine; however, maybe you have not yet found the right cleanser that will not irritate your skin.  I like Aveeno products generally for eczema-prone skin.  If you have not tried the Aveeno Gentle Cleanser, I would consider that one.  Alternatively, Dermalogica makes an Ultra Calming Cleanser that is also free of irritating fragrances and colors.  Regardless, you should apply a moisturizer immediately after cleansing the face (consider Aveeno ultra-calming daily moisturizer with SPF 15 or Dermalogica barrier repair gel).

Good luck.
