Can you give me more information about the wrinkle treatment called Dysport?

Dysport is the second FDA approved neuromuscular toxin approved for wrinkle reduction in the glabellar (between the inner brows).  It is manufactured by Medisys, the company which makes Restylane and Perlane.

The units of Allergan's botox are not equivalent to those of Dysport.

To compare and contrast:

Dysport generally "sets up" in 24-48hr.  Allergan's product requires 5-7 days.

Treatment of the forehead, 11's, squint lines requires average 25-37.5units (allergan) vs 100+ (dysport).

Dysport does spread out or diffuse better than Allergan.

Duration of action is comparable in both products, averaging 3-4 months.

Price is comparable.

Hope this helps.  good luck.

A: What is Dysport?

Dysport is the first FDA approved competitor to Botox. It is a neurotoxin that relaxes facial muscles to smooth wrinkles. We have been using Dysport since it's introduction in June of 2009 and found it to be significantly similar to Botox. We find it to be slightly more effective in the forehead area, but are not clear yet (as of November 2009) whether or not the longevity will be shorter, the same or longer. Our price (per equivalent unit) for Dysport is the same as Botox.
