Double Chin - treatment depends on age

The treatment for a double chin often depends on your age (as the elastic properties of skin are age related). Here are some of the typical options. As you get older or have poor skin quality, you move down the list:

  • Neck liposuction - if your double chin is strictly related to a fatty neck and your skin is elastic, just removing the fat can fix the problem
  • Neck lipo with chin implant - the chin implant is only indicated if you have a "weak" chin. If you happen to have a weak chin and add the implant, the increased projection of your jaw will "take up some slack" neck skin, and this can overcome skin with mildly poor elastic properties
  • Neck Lift - addresses the neck by removing fat, creating a tight muscular sling under your jaw that re-establishes a sharp jawline, and can remove some skin.
  • Direct Excision (T-Z plasty) - not often performed. It is best suited for older men with very poor skin quality, significant excess, and strong aversion to facelift type of scars around the ear. It gives a fairly drastic result, but has the problem of a midline scar.

I hope that helps!
