Almost all of the complaints that I hear from my breast implant patients are temporary. The number one complaint is postoperative pain, but this usually resolves within a few days and is easily controlled with oral medication. A lot of patients used to suffer from nausea and vomiting after breast surgery, but nowadays we have newer, better medications that really minimize this problem. Because I do a lot of submuscular augmentations (implants are placed beneath the pectoralis muscle on the chest), patients may temporarily complain of appearing too full high on the chest for the first few months after surgery. This issue always resolves with time as the muscle relaxes and stretches to accommodate the implant. Happily, long-term complaints related to breast implants are really very rare, and may sometimes be related to trouble fending off excess attention from the opposite sex.
