Chemical peeling does not prevent carbuncles of the chest or back

Shan R. Baker, MD answers: Can chemical peels prevent incoming carbuncles?

Does Chemical Peel work in parts of the body affected by carbuncles, such as chest and back of the neck? How much does it take to finish the job and cost? Is it a temporary or permanent treatment?

Chemical peeling is not an effective treatment for infections of any kind on the back or chest. Carbuncles are caused by infected sebaceous cyst that form small abcesses. The use of chemical peels will not prevent their occurence.
