Manish H. Shah, MD answers: Butt Lift or Brazilian Butt Lift?

I recently lost 100lbs and even though I have hips, my butt kind of deflates and sinks in. I was interested in getting a Brazilian Butt Lift, but two plastic surgeons have said to do a Butt Lift (even though I don't have much sagging), and they can overlay the fat on my hips on top of fat in order to not get flat buttocks. Does this sound right or should I pursue the Brazilian Butt Lift?

To perform a Brazilian butt lift you need to have excess fat that can be removed by liposuction and then reinjected into each buttock to increase the volume. It is a procedure that is best designed for patients who have small, but not saggy buttocks, and need more volume to fill out their clothes. Problems can arise if the areas that will be used to donate the fat are already loose and saggy because that will worsen typically as the deflated tissues from the fat removal refuse to shrink/tighten enough. Other areas would then need to be lifted/surgically tightened to fix that deformity (abdominoplasty, belt lipectomy, circumferential body lift, etc.)

A standard butt lift leaves long scars because it is most useful in those with loose skin that needs to be removed (eg. lost a lot of weight). By itself, it only literally lifts the buttocks, keeping them from sagging. There is typically no increase in volume. That being said, there are ways to augment the buttocks with your own tissues during a standard butt lift as you have been told by two other plastic surgeons.  You then can get increased volume and lift, but the sacrifice is the long scar.

I hope this helps.
