Breast Implants Don't Cause Cancer

Daniel Sherick, MD answers: Breast implants - greater risk of cancer?

Do breast implants have any bearing on breast cancer risk?

There does not seem to be any increased risk of breast cancer in women with implants. They can, however, obstruct the view of breast tissue on mammograms. Important decisions about the placement of the implant behind the muscle or the breast, the use of silicone gel or saline implants, and the size of the implant chosen, can impact the ability to see breast tissue on mammogram. These are important points to discuss with your surgeon.
