The majority of your consultation time with a board certified plastic surgeon should be spent with your surgeon discussing which implant is best for your chest size, where to place the implant and the choices of selecting saline versus cohesive gel implants. A number of factors I discuss with my patients is the breakage issue. Do you want to know if your implants are broken, then choose saline implants they are flat within 24 hours. With silicone implants to know if they are broken you need to have a mammogram or MRI to be diagnosed and this gives a reasonable look at your implants but not always 100% correct in diagnosing. If your breast size are different and the amount of tissue on each of your breast is different then the saline breast implants may be your selection of choice. Saline implants are adjustable as far as the amount of fill volume and this can help with your uneveness. Both saline and silicone breast implants have ripples and ridges. My preference for placement if you are a new breast implant patient is under the muscles which helps with the more natural appearance of the breast. In my office I have both saline and silicone implants in all sizes and we use a 3 way mirror to look at the size and then place the implants on your chest so you can see projection and diameter. We often use a camisole which helps you visualize the size and shape of the implant on your body. It is important to remember all chest are different and implants look different on every client. We allow patients to come back to the office and bring a friend if undecided and spend as much time as needed to look at implants again. With guidance from your surgeon, I believe it is the patient who should make the choice. Size and look are the most important factors for a happy breast augmentation client. This approach with all patients makes me happy and it is a rarity for me to have clients be unhappy with sizes.
