Alcohol and Accutane

Bryan K. Chen, MD answers: What are the effects of alcohol on Accutane results?

Does it slow down the medications action? Or does it "only" have a bad effect to the liver. Thanks.

Ethanol (alcohol) has been shown to induce the enzymes that break down isotretinoin.  This is yet another reason NOT to consume alcohol while taking Accutane.  The other reason, of course, is that the combination of alcohol and isotretinoin can elevate the liver enzymes (signs of liver inflammation and damage) to unhealthy levels.  I hope I have convinced you either to cut out alcohol altogether or to minimize alcohol intake while on Accutane.

Good luck.
