Mary Lupo, MD answers: Acne scar treatment to improve skin texture?

I have had cystic acne in past and have tried every internal medicine. I even tried Accutane 2 yrs. ago which cleared my acne until recently when I had a flare up of about 3.

My question is what is the best treatment I can to do improve my skin texture that currently has fine lines, mild acne scars and some sunspots? Keep in mind I do not want to activate the cystic acne. I am currently on Solodyne(minocycline hcl).

There are many options for acne, acne scars, textural improvement, and discoloration. Isolaz may be an option, but you might want to be off Solodyne for a few days before each session. Isolaz helps redness, texture and active acne. Cooltouch is an excellent option. I have used it for years for acne, acne scars and textural improvement. SilkPeel is gentle and would give some textural inprovement and with the salicylic acid infusion, acne can be improved. There are other options out there as well. These are just my personal favorites for your needs. Please talk to a reputable, board certified dermatologist for more information on these and other options.
