Accutane may cause hair loss but it is probably reversible

Arnold Oppenheim, MD answers: Can Accutane trigger male pattern baldness?

I took accutane for 6 months and noticed my hairline receded drastically on both temples. Could the accutane have triggered male pattern baldness?

I did see this once in a patient with a very strong family history of hair loss. Most reports of this are anecdotal but it is occasionally seen. It is even more of a problem with Soriatane, a drug related to Accutane.

It is felt that hair loss from Accutane, like nearly all drug-induced alopecia, is reversible.

Hope that helps.
