Liposuction: Q&A

Ask a Question

Is 22 Too Young for Liposuction?

I'm 5'6", 149lbs, and 22 years old. I exercise three times a week between cardio and weights, eat right in healthy portion sizes, and stay away from sugars and fats and have been doing so for years. However, I have an apple shape so any fat stores around my middle. I want to get liposuction for a smoother back and defined waistline that exercising hasn't done. Is 22 too young for such a cosmetic procedure? Thank you in advance for your answers.

Apple shapes and liposuction

You sound like you're making good efforts at a healthy lifestyle. You described yourself as having "an apple shape." Some "apples" store their fat behind the muscle inside the body where the organs are located and that fat isn't available for suctioning. That storage pattern is genetically determined. Only fat that is between the skin and the muscle can be reduced with liposuction. Unfortunately, I've seen prospective patients who were told by... more

22 is not too young, but there are also other non-surgical options

22 is not too young, but there are also other non-surgical options such as laser lipolysis and skin tightening devices - Ulthera and Thermage. I would suggest going to a dermatology practice which offers both surgical and non-surgical options so you can weigh the pros and cons of each to make your decision.

Liposuction is ok at 22

Liposuction is ideal for patients who lead a healthy lifestyle and are close to their goal weight. It is for contouring "problem areas" that stubbornly resist exercise and dieting. Your result depends not only on the skill of your surgeon but also on your skin integrity. At 22, your skin should "snap back" and accomodate well in the areas suctioned. Your final result is generally seen at 6 months post-op. Make sure to maintain your healthy... more

Liposuction

The age of 22 is not too young to have liposuction. You also probably have better quality skin than older individuals which may give you better skin retraction. It is definitely worth going for a consultation to find out what can be achieved. Good luck.

You sound like an ideal candidate for tumescent liposuction.

Hi. We think 18 is a reasonable minimum age for liposuction (body fully developed, old enough to make reasonable decisions). You probably need contouring liposuction of the love handles, waist and abdomen, and possibly of the back.

22 is not too young for liposuction for the right candidate.

You probably are a good candidate for liposuction since you diet and exercise and just need a little boost to improve your shape. Good luck with the procedure. Sincerely, David Hansen,MD

Liposuction is to change contours and not weight reduction

You sound like the the perfect candidate for liposuction. You are not over weight and you have fat deposits which you can idenify in localized areas. There really is no age limit for liposuction but it tends to work better for younger people because the skin is more resilient. After age 35 the skin tends not rearrange as well as it does in younger people. I do not know of any contraindication for liposution for a patients age.
