Q: My right implant didn't drop - what could it be?
Answered by Dr. DesmanFebruary 7, 2024

A: Sorry you are having this problem. There are a number of possibilities. If these were placed under the muscle, it could be the muscle was not released completely down below. Alternatively, you could have an early capsular contracture. An element of your natural asymmetry can also be in play. Ultimately, you will need to figure this out with your surgeon.

Q: Breast implant dropping - How long does it take and can it be quickened?
Answered by Dr. DesmanFebruary 6, 2024

A: Great question about implants dropping. For most patients, implants drop within about three months after surgery. Occasionally it takes longer. It is important that the implants are sized and proportioned to your tissues initially to get a great long term result. The best way to achieve that is to have your breast tissues measured before surgery to determine the optimal implant size for your tissues.

Q: Do I have gynecomastia & what are the best treatments? (Photo)
Answered by Dr. DesmanApril 27, 2022

A: Thank you for your question and the photo. It appears that you have some chest asymmetry, and likely some excess tissue. An in-person exam would be needed to determine if you have more fatty development or true breast tissue excess. A surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery can give you a definitive answer. Treatment options depends on the anatomic problem. For some patients, liposuction alone is sufficient. For others, direct excision. For many, a combination of excision and liposuction is the best plan. Some patients even need skin excision as well. From your picture, you likely will not need skin excision. During your consultation, you will be able to create a customized plan to address your chest. Good luck.

Q: Does the Ideal implant or silicone implant weigh more?
Answered by Dr. DesmanApril 27, 2022

A: Thank you for your question. Silicone implants, generally speaking volume for volume will weigh more than a structured implant. As far as "feel to the touch" is concerned, my personal experience is that the Ideal Implant is somewhere in between the feel of a traditional saline and a silicone, but more toward the silicone feel. Not quite exactly equivalent, but close.

Q: Will this lumpy scar eventually go away, or is this my final result? 8 months after tummy tuck (Photo)
Answered by Dr. DesmanApril 27, 2022

A: Thanks for your question and photos. You specifically asked about lumpiness in your scar. It is difficult to see lumpy areas of the scar directly in the photos, but in general your surgeon probably used some dissolving stitches just below the skin surface at your scar site. While most of the stitches likely have dissolved, there may be some pockets of scar from the stitches that you still feel. Sometimes massage or other treatments can help the scar tissue itself. The slight contour irregularities above your scar may benefit from some lymphatic massage - it would be best to discuss directly with your surgeon, as an in-person exam will help determine if that is swelling, residual fat, a little of both, or something else. Good luck.
