This 39-year-old athletic woman with a history of breast cancer sought immediate reconstruction following her right mastectomy.... She opted for the microsurgical DIEP flap breast reconstruction in order to utilize her own tissue and avoid the use of implants. The muscle-sparing DIEP flap was an excellent choice for this lady since it has minimal morbidity and keeps the abdominal wall integrity intact.
