A ray of hope for severe cellulite reduction

A ray of hope for severe cellulite reduction

What are the best ways to get rid of cellulite? Medical experts are quick to deliver a disappointing dose of reality.  "There are a lot of expensive treatments for cellulite - none with lasting results and most that are a complete waste of money.  Beware of the marketing," explains Bay Area plastic surgeon Dr. Steven Williams.

Combination treatment may reduce cellulite dimpling and lumpiness

Yet a new study published in the November/December 2008 issue of Aesthetic Surgery Journal shows that there is a ray of hope for treating cellulite. Doctors found that a combination treatment using Yag laser energy and fat transplantation led to cellulite reduction.

This combination cellulite treatment uses laser energy below the skin to encourage collagen building, skin tightening and fatty reduction. Fat injections of the patient’s own fat are then used to fill in depressions.

The study was based upon 52 female patients with severe cellulite.  85% of these participants rated their cellulite reduction results as “good” or “excellent”.

Robert Gotkin, MD, a NYC plastic surgeon and study author explains, “The search for the cause of cellulite and effective treatments is ongoing, however, the combination of a minimally-invasive pulsed laser treatment and autologous fat transplantation represents a viable option for women who have severe cases of cellulite.”

Foad Nahai, MD, Editor in Chief of the Aesthetic Surgery Journal, agrees that while there is no cure for cellulite "this study provides hope for people who have the most severe cases.”
