Publishers just not into new book about teen surgery
Real Beauty News on Jun 13, 2008

A New York plastic surgeon who has specialized in teenagers for more than two decades has written a book aimed at parents and child psychologists that isn't a big hit with publishers.

Because the book contains photos of Dr. Frederick Lukash's extreme cases and features the personal artwork of his patients generated during therapy, the doctor has not had an easy time finding a publisher.

Dr. Lukash's website does not show any before and after photos and bears a message reading "Out of respect for our patients' privacy, representative before & after photos may be seen in the office..." His biography page details multiple accolades from charities that he has donated services and time on behalf of children.

According to the ASPS, over 333,000 people 18 years and younger had plastic surgery in 2005, up from about 306,000 in 2000. Teens often undergo rhinoplasty and ear pinning, or seek treatment for male breast reduction, known as gynecomastia.

Dr. Lukash is quoted again in an article on Discovery Health which asks the question  "Are Teens Too Young To Go Under The Knife?" In this piece, he tells the story of his own daughter's rhinoplasty when she was 16, stating that noses have reached their near-final form by age 13 or 14 in girls and 15 or 16 in boys.
