Lipodissolve Named One of Five Cosmetic Procedures To Avoid
New Jersey plastic surgeon Dr. Richard D'Amico and President of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons appeared on FOX's national morning program Mike and Juliet to provide the expert opinion for a feature titled "Five Cosmetic Procedures To Avoid."
A woman named Paige appeared to talk about the complications she endured with Lipodissolve treatments, detailing her adverse conditions from painful nodules to gall bladder removal. The clinic where Paige was treated no longer exists. (Could they have been referring to Fig?)
Dr. D'Amico tells the audience that the Society has commissioned a study of Lipodissolve, "because people are apparently determined to do this as a shortcut to traditional liposuction, which is very safe and very well worked out." He cautions against Lipodissolve, saying "this is a great example of marketing and hype getting out in front of science. We don't have data on this. "
The other four procedures to avoid:
2. Permanent injectable fillers - Dr. D'Amico says temporary fillers are great, that they've been tested and they're natural products that can't do harm. Anything permanent just hasn't been tested for enough time to deem it safe for the general public.
3. Unnecessary foot surgery of any kind, because "I wouldn't recommend myself anybody doing anything to their feet that they don't have to do. You stand on them all day long," says Dr. D'Amico.
4. Buttocks implants. This surgery just doesn't work out well for very many people, infection is easily contracted because it's an area of the body that isn't very "tidy," and it's hard to sit.
5. Cosmetic leg lengthening. The young man on the Fox segment spent $200,000 to add two inches to his 4'11" height. The orthopedic surgeon who joined the program said it was not something that should ever be done for cosmetic reasons, because of the risk involved.
