Medical Spas Adapt to a Changing Economy
Recent news from Richmond, Indiana (about halfway between Dayton, Ohio and Indianapolis) suggests that non-invasive procedures aren't suffering in this economy, due to the lowered cost of treatments like Botox, chemical peels, laser hair removal and non-surgical face lifts.
Reporter Millicent Martin of the Palladium Item says that people seeking cosmetic enhancements in Ohio and Indiana have become more aware of the effectiveness of these treatments and the providers of these services have gained experience in recent years to fulfill the demand.
Consumers have also stated their increasing desire for "more natural" anti aging treatment options. When medical spas respond with the right treatments at competitive prices, this provides a viable alternative to surgical procedures and "helps to weather economic conditions."
Clients at Richmond's Bliss Medical Spa pay about $350 for a non-surgical face lift; roughly a quarter of the price of most surgery practices. Spa owner Melinda Johnson, who also owns another location in Muncie, makes an insightful comparison to the great depression: "women might not have been able to afford a new dress, but they would still scrape together enough to have some lipstick."
Although our current economy may be facing some different challenges, the metaphor still holds weight. Perhaps, non-invasive procedures are "the new lipstick."

I totally agree with non-invasive procedures being "the new lipstick." Now that I'm in my new 20's, I'm more cautious about frivolous spending. However, I am one of those who would forgo movies or the odd impulse buy for s shot of treatment.

I couldn't agree more. Just the other day I decided to skip going out to dinner - but instead ear marked my money for a sun damage treatment. Acara, my company, is seeing this trend in the medical spas we manage right now - on a nationwide basis. In challenging times people want to feel good about themselves. There's less control in the world, but we can still impact how we look and feel about ourselves.
